HISTORY
Megève is a winter sports resort created between the two world wars by the Rothschilds. Noémie de Rothschild, wife of Baron Maurice de Rothschild, wanted to escape German-occupied resorts like Saint-Moritz, so she chose the Savoyard village of Megève.
In 1921, she built the Palace des Neiges, a luxury hotel on Mont d’Arbois, whose popularity increased when Albert I of Belgium stayed there during the winters of 1922 to 1924.
Development continued with the inauguration of the Rochebrune cable car in 1933, followed by another linking it to Mont d’Arbois three years later, further enhancing the prestige of this French Alpine enclave prized by the European aristocracy!
